Euromillion Countries – Which Countries Play EuroMillions?

The great thing about EuroMillions, of course, is that it is a truly international, pan-European lottery. In total, there are nine participating countries and the euro millions is an increasingly popular lottery.

With the expanding EU, no doubt there will be more participating EuroMillions countries in the years ahead. This can only help to increase the size of the jackpot!

At its launch in February 2004, France, Britain and Spain were the only EuroMillions countries. But, the EuroMillions craze spread like wildfire across European countries and the euro millions is now available in Austria, Luxembourg, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland and Portugal. All of these countries signed up in the same year – 2004. (Although, thanks to the Internet, you don’t have to live in one of the euro millions countries to take part.)

In all, more than a quarter or 28% of income rais1ed from the tickets goes to support good causes across Europe, and this money is shared out proportionately depending on the number of players in each of the EuroMillions countries.

Rules vary slightly between the various countries and the EuroMillions may be played in a slightly different way in each one. For example, in the UK you have to be 16 to play EuroMillions, but in other countries that age is 18. But the same basic principles of selecting numbers apply universally. The whole set-up is also scrupulously fair across all the participating countries and the EuroMillions does not favour one nation over any other.

And all Europeans share the same excitement at playing, the same thrill as the draw is held on Friday evening, and the same dream of hitting the jackpot. Remember, the dream can only come true for you if you buy a ticket!
